Theme four instructions: Comparison & Contrast

Write an essay of at least five paragraphs, using comparison and contrast as the primary rhetorical mode. Choose from the following topics for your paper:

1. High school & college

2. Two musical groups or two types of music

3. Two perspectives on a single place (for example, a place remembered as a child and now; your desk before writing a paper and after)

4. Infatuation and love

5. Two video games, movies, or books

6. Two professional athletes

Things to remember:

1. Your essay should be at least five paragraphs in length.

2. Make sure that the larger point of your comparison and contrast is evident from the introduction. Articulate why the comparison or contrast is important other than for its own sake.

3. Make sure that your items share a logical category (remember we talked about sharks and monkeys versus sharks and dolphins).

4. Make sure that you use the proper presentation method: point by point vs. block method.

If you do not have a complete draft next time (at least five paragraphs, double spaced), do not come to class.
