I picked this book because I saw it was at the top of a reader's poll, though I forget exactly what the poll was on. I was excited to read it, until I saw its size. This small deterrent was not going to stop me, however, as length is definitely not a primary consideration.  Atlas Shrugged is a strange book.  It has lengthy and average narrative, interspersed with repetitive, 50 page long philosophical rants, and needless to say it left something to be desired.  I appreciated it, and enjoyed it somewhat, but could never recommend it to anyone else.  There is so much in this book, and it tries to say so much, but to me it felt like it was ineffective for the most part, except in preaching to the choir.  If you like long, right-wing, philosophical rants about the benefits of laissez-faire and why we should let the poor starve, you'll love Atlas Shrugged.

I will never really understand why I like philosophical rants.
I think it's just a way to see someone else's beliefs, as in a rant, it's pretty difficult to control a lie. Smiley

Read lie as "hiding true beliefs" not "blatent untruth".
